- Cab Secure Radio
Cab Secure Radio (CSR) is an in-cab analogue
radiotelephone system used on parts of the British railway network. Its main function is to provide a securespeech link between the train driver and the signaller which cannot be overheard by other train drivers. In areas where CSR is used it must be the normal method of communication between driver and signaller, replacing the function of the signal post telephone. CSR will be replaced by adigital system calledGSM-R .History
CSR was first introduced in the
Glasgow area in the 1970's to enable driver-only operation of trains. It was later used in theLondon andLiverpool areas. [cite web

The driver initialises the CSR with either a
Train reporting number , orTOPS stock number if a train reporting number is not available. The signaller uses this number to make a call to a driver.
Each signalling area uses a different radio channel. As the train passes from area to area, the CSR changes channel automatically. Lineside signs are provided to inform driver of correct channel. Driver can change the channel manually if necessary.Hardware
CSR cab equipment can be the
Stornophone 6000 or aSiemens model. [cite web
