Carnonacae

Carnonacae

The Carnonacae were a tribe of northern Britain recorded only by Ptolemy (ob. 161 AD), and are believed to have lived at some time prior to that record in the area later known as Ross-shire. Their name is cognate with that of the Celtic god Cernunnos or with the Latin "cornu", a horn. Nothing is known of this people ["Extima Ora Scotiae" and "De Antiqvitate Scotiae" by Joan Blaeu, 1596-1673] .
