Career
Lawrence started playing the game when he was 12 years old, in 1998 he signed a contract for Salgaocar SC. At his first season, Salgaocar won the NFL. After five years, Climax joined East Bengal in 2004. The following season he switched to Dempo, where he won the last NFL season as well as the first I-League season.
He also featured the Dempo squad at the 2008 AFC Cup, which made it to the semi finals.[1] He also went on to win the 2009-10 I-League with Dempo S.C..
Climax represented his state and then India at Under-19 level before signing his first professional contract with Vasco. Throughout his youth career and even at Vasco, he used to play as a striker. But after joining Salgaocar in 1998, Climax was converted to a midfielder by coach Marcos Pacheto. In his very first season with Salgaocar, Climax won the National Football League title and three domestic cups – Super Cup, Rovers Cup and Durand Cup.
The Goan continued to improve at Salgaocar but he showed his best form in the 2002-03 season when he helped them finish runner-up in the League and won the Goa League and Rovers Cup titles. Climax moved to Kolkata giants East Bengal in 2004 and his performances from midfield helped the red and gold brigade win three trophies - Kolkata Premier League, Durand Cup and the San Miguel International Cup, Nepal.
He spent just one season at East Bengal as he returned to Goa to sign for Dempo. 2005 proved to be a very successful year for Climax as he helped Goa win the Santosh Trophy and was instrumental in India winning the SAFF Cup. As a result he was adjudged as the AIFF Player of the Year in 2005. At club level the trophies were coming thick and fast for Dempo after signing Climax as they won the Durand Cup for the first time in 2006 and then back to back league titles in 2007 and 2008. Climax also won the best Midfielder award in the National League twice.
National team
In 2002 he was called to the Indian national football team by coach Stephen Constantine. Since then he's a part of the national team. In the AFC Challenge Cup, he scored the winning goal in the 91st minute against Afghanistan to help India to a 1-0 victory.[1]
He was known for his high-intensity work rate, delivering multiple attacks down the Indian midfield in a pulsating manner.
