Whissonsett

Whissonsett is a village (population 483ref|population) in the English county of Norfolk, situated approximately 5 miles south of the town of Fakenham. The village lies close to the source of the River Wensum.

Whissonsett or Witcingkeseta as it was known in the Domesday Book means either the settlement of the Witcing tribe or a place of watery meadows.

St Mary's Church is set in the heart of the village and is thought to date from around 1250, digging work to create a new grave in 1902 uncovered the top part of an Anglo-Saxon cross which now resides inside the Church.
