Whissonsett is a
village (population 483ref|population) in the Englishcounty ofNorfolk , situated approximately 5mile s south of the town ofFakenham . The village lies close to the source of theRiver Wensum .Whissonsett or Witcingkeseta as it was known in the
Domesday Book means either the settlement of the Witcing tribe or a place of watery meadows.St Mary's Church is set in the heart of the village and is thought to date from around 1250, digging work to create a new grave in 1902 uncovered the top part of an Anglo-Saxon cross which now resides inside the Church.
