Daphne Caruana Galizia (born August 26,
1964 ) is a journalist and newspaper columnist fromMalta . Caruana Galizia started working in the Maltese media in 1988, and quickly established herself as Malta`s most influential and controversial journalist in her weekly column forThe Times of Malta `s Sunday edition, `The Sunday Times`. Caruana Galizia later switched toThe Malta Independent stable of newspapers, contributing weekly columns to the Sunday and Thursday editions. Caruana Galizia immediately became known for her outspoken and occasionally acerbic views on political and social issues. Despite declaredNationalist Party (Malta) leanings, Caruana Galizia initially marked herself out as Malta`s most unbiased and independent-minded columnist in the heavily polarised Maltese media. However, her critics have claimed that, in recent years, her writing has become increasing pro-Nationalist government and has been marked by personal attacks on oppositionMalta Labour Party figures andclassist invective aimed at the Labour Party`s predominantlyworking class supporters. At the same time, Caruana Galizia has perhaps been the most vocal media commentator in open condemnation of the incipient far-right movement, fuelled by discontent over illegal immigration from Africa.Caruana Galizia is 44 years old, married with three sons. She graduated with honours in archaeology from the
