- Val Daly
Val Daly is a former inter-county footballer for Galway
The Mountbellew man, who made his debut with the county side in the 1981 National League and played up until the 1996 Championship season. He is regarded as one of the great footballers to miss out on the code’s ultimate honour, an All-ireland title
An All-Star in 1990, Daly won five Connacht Senior Championships but there have been many disappointments too, especially the 1983 All-Ireland Final debacle against Dublin when (Galway failed to put the 12 man Leinster champions away in a bruising encounter.
He served under six different team managers - Tony Regan,
Mattie McDonagh , Cyril Dunne, Billy Joyce John Tobin and Bosco McDermott, during a time when Galway football was in a time of famine and underachievement. In the time, 1987 to 1995, Galway failed to win a single Connacht Championship, despite the best efforts of Daly.
