- IAR CV 11
__NOTOC__ The IAR CV 11 was a Romanian fighter prototype in 1930, designed by Elie Carafori, and it was
IAR 's first original aircraft.Development
IAR had been founded in 1925 as one of
Romania 's first aircraft manufacturers, and in 1930 it produced the CV 11, a single-seat fighter powered by a 600 hp 12-cylinder W-typeLorraine 12F a Courlis engine.Operational history
After completion of the initial flight testing program at
Istres in January1931 , the decision was made to change the engine to a 500hpHispano-Suiza 12M c 12-cylinder Vee-type. The CV 11 then returned to Romania, where it made an attempt to complete the 500 km closed circuit speed record. However, an engine failure resulted in a forced landing which killed the pilot, CaptainRomeo Popescu . Further development of the design led to theIAR CV 12 .pecifications (CV 11 with HS 12Mc engine)
