Notable_instruments =Etc is a rock band fronted by British songwriter and guitarist Ben Harrison.
Etc is currently based in
Singapore and has been described by Singapore's English-language national daily, [https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/The_Straits_Times The Straits Times] , as "the most literate band playing in the region". Harrison has referred to the current line-up as being a "power duo" that plays "Psychopop", a genre name invented by Harrison in order to avoid pigeonholing when asked by journalists to define his earlier band, Deadbeats (comprising of school friends, formed in Singapore in 1987).Etc's debut single "Adolesce" was selected by the [https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Bbc_world_service BBC World Service] for the broadcaster's Global Top 10 for Singapore. Harrison is known to take some pride in comments made on air by his hero, the influential BBC DJ
John Peel , who referred to Harrison's guitar-playing as "noisy, but not too noisy".Etc's first released recording was a homemade instrumental featured on the movie soundtrack CD of the
Eric Khoo movieMee Pok Man . Their most recent release was in 2007 with one of Etc's best-known songs, "Astrogal", featured on a Malaysian compilation called "Junk". The band have made these songs plus radio sessions and live recordings available for free download at [http://www.myspace.com/abcdetc Etc's Myspace] and [http://www.reverbnation.com/etc Reverb Nation] pages.Harrison also features on a cover version of his own song "Handphones on the Dancefloor" by the Singaporean band, The Pinholes. An acoustic version of the song, with Harrison on lead vocals, was one of the tracks on The Pinholes 2008 CD released by Straits Records.
Etc recorded their debut album during a two-hour recording session at The End of Recording Studios in Singapore on Sunday, September 21st 2008. The track-listing includes the songs "When I Was A Store Detective", "Promise Me You'll Never Promise Me Again", "Dumb Waiter", "Peter Panic", "Dancing to The Smiths", "Love Is No Alibi" and "**** Is A Four-Letter Word".
