Hershel Reichman (רב צבי יוסף רייכמאן) is a and Orthodox
Jewish rabbi androsh yeshiva ofRabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary , an affiliate ofYeshiva University .Education
Reichman received a BA from
Yeshiva University and Ph.D. inOperations Research fromNew York University (NYU). Reichman considers himself primarily a student of the twentieth century Talmudic genius RabbiJoseph B. Soloveitchik . However, Reichman officially received his rabbinical ordination (semicha ) from Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, with whom he studied Jewish Law in a private tutorial. In addition, Reichman is known for his passionate support ofReligious Zionism .Books
Reichman has authored five volumes of "Reshimos Shiurim" which are lucid notes and explanations of Rabbi Soloveitchik's lectures on specific sections of the
Talmud . These include the "Mesechtot" ("Tractate s") of Sukkah,Shavuot ,Nedarim andBava Kamma . Additionally, Reichman is a teacher of Hasidism, and is particularly fond of the philosophy of theShem Mishmuel .Professorship
Reichman became the newest member of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary faculty to occupy an endowed chair when he was invested by President Richard M. Joel as the "Bronka Weintraub Professor of Talmud" on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2007 in the Harry Fischel Beit Midrash of Zysman Hall on the Wilf Campus. Family
Reichman's father was born in Belz, Poland to a family of Belzer Hasidim (
Belz (Hasidic dynasty) ). After World War II, Reichman's father was an emmissary of the Belzer RebbeAharon Rokeach .Reichman's son, Rabbi Zev Reichman, is head of the Mechinah program, of
Yeshiva University and shares his father's love for Hasidism. In fact, Reichman, sometimes referred to as "Rabbi Reichman, Jr," has written a book over Hasidic thought, "Flames of Faith: An Introduction to Chassidic Thought" (2005) over the concepts of Rav Moshe Wolfson, his teacher.Reichman resides in
Washington Heights ,New York and maintains a second home in Shilo.References
