Jan Niklas Patrik Sjöberg (born
January 5 ,1965 inGöteborg ,Västra Götaland ) is a former Swedishhigh jump er and previousworld record holder. With 2.42 m, he holds the Swedish as well as the European record in men's high jump, making him the second best high jumper of all time, afterJavier Sotomayor . The record jump took place at DN-Galan, an annual athletics event inStockholm ,June 30 ,1987 . At the time, it was a world record. He is also a two time world indoor record holder with marks of 2.38m (1985) and 2.41m (1987).Sjöberg has been followed by other successful Swedish high jumpers, most notably

Sjöberg was arrested August 13, 2006 in a Gothenburg night club with a small amount of
cocaine in his pocket, and a later issued urine sample contained traces of cocaine. Sjöberg has issued a lengthy public letter of apology. This was a stroke of luck for Patrik Sjöberg since he has no official income. Sjöberg was sentenced to 150 unit fines à 30 Swedish kronor, 4500 Swedish kronor.
