Gould transcontinental system

Gould transcontinental system

The Gould transcontinental system was a system of railroads assembled by George J. Gould in the 1900s. Due to financial troubles, it was never completed as a fully transcontinental line, stretching from San Francisco to Pittsburgh at its peak.

The lines forming the system were:
*Western Pacific Railway
*Rio Grande Western Railway
*Denver and Rio Grande Railroad
*Missouri Pacific Railway
*Wabash Railroad
*Wheeling and Lake Erie Railroad
*Wabash Pittsburgh Terminal Railway [gap between Pittsburgh and Connellsville]
*Western Maryland Railroad
