The Type 38 15 cm Howitzer was a howitzer used by the Japanese Army during World War I, the 2nd Sino-Japanese War and World War II. It was a Krupp design, license-built by the Osaka Armory after the end of the Russo-Japanese War. The first batch of howitzers may have been delivered directly by Krupp prior to start-up of production by Osaka. It was obsolete by the beginning of World War II, but remained in use in second-line and home defense units. Surplus weapons were mounted on the chassis of the Type 97 Chi-Ha medium tank as the Type 4 Ho-Ro self-propelled gun.
