Gregory Peter Biagini (
March 12 ,1952 —October 3 ,2003 ) was an American player, coach and manager inminor league baseball and a batting coach for theBaltimore Orioles ofMajor League Baseball . A native ofChicago, Illinois , Biagini stood 6'2" (188 cm) tall, weighed 220 pounds (100 kg), batted left-handed and threw right-handed during his playing career.Biagini was chosen in the 12th round in the June 1973 amateur draft by the Montreal Expos. He attended Glenbrook North High School in
Northbrook, Illinois , and played varsitybaseball , football andice hockey atIowa State University . He was afirst baseman in the Montrealfarm system before turning his hand to managing in 1983 with theBluefield Orioles of the Rookie-levelAppalachian League . Biagini would manage in the minor leagues for 14 seasons (1983-91; 1995-99) for Baltimore and the Texas Rangers, compiling a record of 937 wins and 933 defeats (.501) with two AAA championships, with the 1990Rochester Red Wings of theInternational League and the 1996 Oklahoma City 89ers of the American Association. He spent three seasons (1992-94) in theAmerican League as the major-league hitting coach for the Orioles during the managerial term ofJohnny Oates , and was the minor league hitting coordinator of theBoston Red Sox in 2000-01.Greg Biagini died at 51 from
