- Haggertyite
Haggertyite is a rare
barium ,iron ,magnesium ,titanate mineral: Ba(Fe2+6Ti5Mg)O19 first described in1996 from theCrater of Diamonds State Park near Murfreesboro inPike County, Arkansas . The microscopic metallic mineral crystallizes in the hexagonal system and forms tiny hexagonal plates associated withrichterite and serpentinitizedolivine ofmafic xenolith s in thelamproite host rock. It is an iron(II) rich member of themagnetoplumbite group . It is a light grey mineral withMohs hardness of 5.It was named for
Stephen E. Haggerty (b.1938 ), formerly of theUniversity of Massachusetts , and ofFlorida International University in 2007.ee also
