Vassilis Angelopoulos (Greek: "Βασίλης Αγγελόπουλος") is a
Greek American physicist . He is a specialist on Space and Astrophysical Plasmas. He isTHEMIS principal investigator at theUniversity of California, Berkeley 's Space Sciences Laboratory, inBerkeley, California . Since July, 2007, he has been on the faculty of the Department of Earth & Space Sciences and the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics at theUniversity of California, Los Angeles (UCLA ).His education:
*1986:B.S. in Physics,Aristotle University of Thessaloniki ,Greece
*1988:M.S. in Physics,UCLA
*1993:Ph.D. in Physics with specialization in Space Plasma Physics,UCLA Awards and honors:
*1986-1992: Fulbright fellowship for the duration of Ph.D. program.
*1994: Fred Scarf Award, conferred byAmerican Geophysical Union ’s Space Physics and Aeronomy Section to the best Ph.D. thesis in that section.
*2000: Zeldovich Medal, conferred by theRussian Academy of Sciences andCOSPAR on young scientists for excellence and achievement.
