It promotes the concept of science centers as an educational tools

The Sections of the PSC

1. The Planetarium

A planetarium may be defined as:
*A building housing, an instrument for projecting the position of celestial bodies onto a domed celling.
*An optical device for projecting images of celestial bodies and astronpmical phenomena onto the inner surface of a hemispherical dome.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina's Planetarium Shows:
* Solarmax (IMAX 40min.)
* Star Show (Live Show 45min.)
* Oasis in Space (Panorama 25 min.)
* Ring of fire (IMAX 40 min.)
* Human Body (IMAX 40 min.)

3. ALEXPloratorium

It is located next to the Planetarium, where visitors are able to interact with its exhibits which cover various scientific topics, with emphasis on Physics and Astronomy.

4. Listen and Discover

Short and simple scientific documentary films are displayed according to a predefined schedule. The Films are of a lively nature that attract audience and help them understand scientific issues in an appealing, simple yet interesting manner.

The Programs in the PSC

1.Hands-on Workshops:

Within the mission and strategy adopted by the PSC. The History of science Museum Conducts a variety of Workshops to facilitate and animate the information in the museum in a simple fun manner.

2.Remote Sensing Workshop:

The Workshop introduces the scientific participles of remote sensing. and offers hands-on applications. Participants will be introduced to the impact of natural events through history using a series of satellites images. as well as the analysis of recent images to comprehend the current situation. Participants will also be exposed to other environmental issues that are rated to the workshop theme.

3.Zoom Earth Program:

This program comprises different kinds of educational activities. such as series of lecture. Workshops and field trips. The program mainly tackles topics such as irrigation, meteorology, Volcanoes and earthquakes.

4.Discover your environmental Camp:

A winter Cam, Discover your Environment allows students to interact with various fields of science through entertaining activities in the courses of an amazing journey to the Siwa desert organized by the PSC.

5.The Workshop:

"(chemistry - Volcanoes - DNA - Agriculture - Five Senses - Sound - Genetics - Air - Magnetic - Dinosaurs - First Aids - Colors - Mechanics - Gravity - Light - Time measurement)"

6.RoboAlex Center:

The RoboAlex Center at the Alexploratorium offers compelling hands-on Robotic challenges Guided by animators. The participating group design, program, and test Robots on a special playing field to accomplish certain missions.

7.Science Club:

Science Club implement educational and science programs at schools; they aim to simulate curiosity, interest and enjoyment in science and its methods of inquiry, to develop experiment and investigative abilities and develop children abilities and skills.

8.Super Science Show:

The Super Science Show is a dynamic and highly motivational activity that gets the participating children involved in hands-on experiment that simulate infectious enthusiasm. The show includes experiment in the fields of physics,biology, and Chemistry.

11.Alexploratorium Contest:

The Alexploratorium Contest is a science that familiarize students of different age groups with essential topics in science like: Human Body, IQ test and teamwork; it also tackles important scientific discovers, and provides them to become good science communicators and share what they know about each other.

Important Event in the PSC

1.Eratosthenes:

Eratosthenes is a traditional annual Festival that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina organizes with the aim to promoting science and heritage among school studentsThe Festivities of 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, evolved around measuring the earth's circumference following the footsteps of Eratosthenes.

2.First-Lego League in Egypt Competition Finale:

The result of an impressive alliance between FIRST(For Inspiration and Recogenition of Science and Technology) and LEGO First Lego League (FLL) is an international hands-on, sport-like, Robotics program for children 9-14 Year s Guided by mentors and teir own imagination, FLL student solve actual engineering Challenges such as team-Building, Problem Solving analytical thinking and creativity.

3.Intel ISEF

The International Science and Engineering faire (Intel ISEF) [http://www.science.org/isef/index.asp Intel ISEF] an international science competition that provides an opporunity for outstanding young scientist and inventors to come together to share ideas and showcase cutting-edge science prjects. The Competition recognizes hte urgency of promoting achievment in science to student 14-18 Years, and encourage innovation and creativity. The international competition occurs every year in the USA bringing together students, teachers, Corporate executive, and government officials from around the world to compete for over 4 million USD in scholarships, Tuition grants, Scientific equipment, and Scintific Trips.

4.World Water Day:

on the occasion of the international celebration of the world water day The PSC organize one day festival for the World water day.

5.World Environmental Day:

Commemorated each year on 5 June. World Environmental day is one of the vehicles through which the united nation stimulates worldwide awareness of the environmental and enhance political attention and action. The Slogan for 2008 was "CO2 Kick the habit" Towards a low carbon Economy.

6.Creativity Day:

"THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS - ONLY OPPORTUNITIES TO BE CREATIVE" ...Dorye RoettgerEverone has problems and challenges that need solving; They are an inevitable part of living. What many people do not realize. however, is that most of them can be overcome using a simple. focused program of personal brainstorming creativity is inventing. Experimenting, Growing, Taking Risks, Breaking Rules, Making Mistakes and having fun.
