Mark Beam

Mark Beam (born 1957, Detroit) is an American artist, sculptor, and designer who lives and works in Southern California.

A self taught artist, Beam establishes himself by combining materials not first associated with classic sculpture.Surfboard foam, fiberglass, chicken bones, ping-pong balls, and other components are combined to create "a look of his own".

Much of Mark Beam's art has a humorous bent.

His work can be found in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), actress/writer Carrie Fisher, legendary musician/composer Frank Zappa for whom he did an album cover ("Yellow Shark"), and many other notables.

In the 1980s Beam worked on the Pee Wee Herman Show, first at the Groundlings Theater and later at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles.

Beam created a life size cow sculpture for which he later sold the rights to director/writer Steve Oedekerk. This cow became the central character "Otis" in the hit paramount film production "Barnyard" and later the hit Nickelodeon television series "Back at the Barnyard".
