Timothy G. Reagan, Ph.D. (born
July 15 ,1956 ) is a U.S. academic. He is currently Professor of Education atCentral Connecticut State University inNew Britain, Connecticut , and his former positions include serving as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Professor of Linguistics at theUniversity of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dean of the School of Education and Professor of Foreign Language Education atRoger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island, and Professor of Foreign Language Education, Associate Dean, and Chair of the Department of Educational Leadership in the Neag School of Education at theUniversity of Connecticut , Associate Professor of Educational Foundations at Central Connecticut State University, and Assistant Professor of Educational Foundations and Research atGallaudet University in Washington, D.C.Reagan's academic work includes research and publications in the areas of applied and educational linguistics, foreign language education, critical pedagogy, educational leadership, and comparative and international education. He is especially well-known for his work on reflective practice, the linguistics of sign languages (both American Sign Language and South African Sign Language), language policy and language planning in education, and critical linguistics in foreign language education. He was one of the founders of the International Society for Language Studies, and the founding co-editor of the Society's Journal "Critical Issues in Language Studies: An International Journal."
Reagan has extensive international work experience, including time spent in Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Estonia, Mauritania, Mexico, Paraguay, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, and Turkey. In additional to nine books, he has published more than 100 refereed journal articles and book chapters, and his work has appeared in such journals as "Africa Education Review, Critical Inquiry in Language Studies, Educational Foundations, Educational Theory, Foreign Language Annals, Harvard Educational Review, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, Journal of Negro Education, Journal for Language Teaching, Journal of Thought, Language, Identity and Education, Language Policy, Language Problems and Language Planning" and "Sign Language Studies."
