- Simi Valley
The Simi Valley is an anticlinal
valley inSouthern California in the United States. It is an enclosed or hidden valley surrounded by mountains and hills. It is connected to theSan Fernando Valley to the east by theSanta Susana Pass , and via the narrows of theArroyo Simi to Moorpark andVentura, California . The relatively flat bottom of the valley contains soils formed from shales, sandstones and conglomerates eroded from the northern hills of theSanta Susana Mountains , that separate the Simi Valley from theSanta Clara River Valley to the north. TheSimi Hills lie along the south side of the Simi Valley.Transportation
California State Route 118 , the Ronald Reagan Freeway, is the main east-west route that carries road traffic in and out of the valley, and through the city ofSimi Valley, California . TheMontalvo Cutoff , a railroad line opened by theSouthern Pacific Company on March 20, 1904, to improve the alignment of its Coast Line, also runs east-west through the valley.Metrolink currently operates this line, which it bought in the 1990s from Southern Pacific (now Union Pacific), which retainedtrackage rights for freight service.References
