Simi Valley

Simi Valley

The Simi Valley is an anticlinal valley in Southern California in the United States. It is an enclosed or hidden valley surrounded by mountains and hills. It is connected to the San Fernando Valley to the east by the Santa Susana Pass, and via the narrows of the Arroyo Simi to Moorpark and Ventura, California. The relatively flat bottom of the valley contains soils formed from shales, sandstones and conglomerates eroded from the northern hills of the Santa Susana Mountains, that separate the Simi Valley from the Santa Clara River Valley to the north. The Simi Hills lie along the south side of the Simi Valley.

Transportation

California State Route 118, the Ronald Reagan Freeway, is the main east-west route that carries road traffic in and out of the valley, and through the city of Simi Valley, California. The Montalvo Cutoff, a railroad line opened by the Southern Pacific Company on March 20, 1904, to improve the alignment of its Coast Line, also runs east-west through the valley. Metrolink currently operates this line, which it bought in the 1990s from Southern Pacific (now Union Pacific), which retained trackage rights for freight service.
