- Singida
Singida is one of the regions of
Tanzania . The region is bordered to the North byShinyanga Region , to the Northeast byManyara Region , to the East byDodoma Region , to the Southeast byIringa Region , to the Southwest byMbeya Region and to the West byTabora Region . It is one of the poorest regions in Tanzania. Singida is itself a region, a district, and a town.According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of Singida Region was 1,090,758. Districts
Singida Region is administratively divided into 4 districts:
Iramba ,Manyoni ,Singida Rural andSingida Urban .Town
In Singida town (i.e. Singida municipal district) and Singida Rural District, the main tribe is the Nyaturu. The town is also home to immigrants from different parts of
Tanzania . Iramba district belongs to Nyiramba tribe and Manyoni district belongs to Gogo and few of Nyaturu tribes. The region is home to an N.G.O. known as H.A.P.A. (Health Action Promotion Association) and their efforts focus on surrounding villages and towns [ [http://www.volunteerafrica.org/red/background Background to Tanzania, Development and HAPA ] ] . They build both dispenseries and school houses for local communities in Singida and beyond.The Photo below featured one of the Chief Saidi Gwao's wife Bibi Nyamwagele of Samumba. Gwao was chief of Singida South around 1940s, after he died his brother Chief Mange Gwao took over the crown until after Tanzania independence, when chief leadership was abolished. The Gwao family is well known in Singida for the Nyaturu tribe development. Bibi Nywamwagele died in 2004.
Transport
Singida has a railway station on the Central Railway of Tanzanian Railways.The Railway from Singida Join the Central line in Manyoni.
New Asphalt Road is being built between Singida and Dodoma.
