The shell is large, approximately oval, the under valve flat, concave, or concave, according to the surface of attachment. An oval hole, near the beak, accommodates the calcareous byssal plug. The upper valve is convex and coarsely radially corrugated.
The shell coloration is either silvery white, or the under valve is bright green with the upper valve yellow or orange.
The shell height is up to 67 mm, width 83 mm, and thickness 13 mm.
