Rand Refinery

Rand Refinery

The Rand Refinery, located in Germiston in Gauteng, South Africa is the worlds largest gold refinery as well as being the only one on the African Continent. It was founded in 1921.

It processes most of South Africa's gold production and also mints Krugerrands and has been minting them since they were introduced in 1967.

The Rand Refinery has processed more than 40 000 tons of gold since its founding, that represents more than a third of all gold ever mined in the world. Also, 80% of the continent's gold production, not including South Africa's own, is processed at this refinery.
