- Presidio Park
The Presidio Park in
San Diego, California is where theSan Diego Presidio and theSan Diego Mission were founded in 1769. The mission moved a few miles away [ [http://www.nr.nps.gov/writeups/66000226.nl.pdf NHL Writeup] ] and the presidio was in ruins by 1835 [ [http://www.nr.nps.gov/Red%20Books/66000226.red.pdf NPS Red Book] ] . In 1907,George Marston , a wealthy department store owner, bought Presidio Hill with an interest to preserve the site. Unable to attract city funding, Marston built a private park in 1925 with the help of architect John Nolen. Marston donated the park to the city in 1929.Presidio Park can be enjoyed for its lushly landscaped rolling hills and views of the city and the Pacific Ocean in the background. You can enjoy a picnic in the park. There are large open lawn areas for outdoor games. Weddings can also be held in the park.
No historical structures remain in Presidio Park today. The site is occasionally used for archaeological excavations.
