mr=Hyŏp toThe Hyeopdo is a pole weapon with a sword attached to one end. It look slightly similar to the
woldo but the blade is much smaller. It was also called "micheomdo" (미첨도), which could be translated as 'eyebrow sword' because the curved blade resembled an eyebrow. The "hyeopdo" is first mentioned in aKorea n martial arts manual from the 17th century calledMuye jebo beonyeok sokjip (무예예보 번역속집).Construction
The pole was around 1.50 meters long and the blade would be around 63 centimeters.
Use
The "hyeopdo" was considered an important weapon because of it's effectiveness. Not only in Korea, but in
China andJapan as well. It was much easier to handle than the bigger and heavier "woldo". In theMuyedobotongji one form is given, called "hyeopdo chong bo" (협도총보, 挾刀總譜).ee also
