The Australian Essential Oil Company also called the Melaleuca Company was started in 1993 by Bill McGilvary with the focus on delivering 100% pure Melaleuca oil (tea tree oil). The product comes from environmentally sound plantations or renewable sources to protect the environment. To harvest Melaleuca oil, the company utilizes distillation in stainless steel containers. Today, the Australian Essential Oil Company is credited with having a major influence in the development in the Melaleuca oil/Tea Tree Oil industry in Australia.

The company is located in New South Wales, Australia and has expanded exports to 15 counties throughout the world making Australian Essential Oil Company one of the largest exporters of these oils in Australia.

The Australian Essential Oil Company has an one of the most active research and development program that researches Melaleuca and Melaleuca oil and has begun researching other essential oils including Araucaria, Backhousia, Baekia, Callitris, Eremophila, Eucalypts, Geijera, Leptospermums, Melaleucas, Prostanthera and Zieria.
