Family Background and Influences

Kiran Chopra belongs to a very patriotic family. Her father was a high court judge in the city of Gwalior. During the times of Mahatma Gandhi, he fought for the country and was also put behind bars. Her mother Kamla Oberoi was a prominent social worker who, along with Vijaya Raje Sindhiya and Sheela Dixit, worked for the deprived. In true sense, both her parents dedicated themselves to the betterment of the Nation. Kamla Oberoi strongly believed in women empowerment and understood that a woman has a much greater role to play beyond the four walls and should make an identity of her own. From the very beginning Kiran Chopra’s mother had deep interest in art and culture too. She was highly inspired by her mother’s values and interests. Her elder sister was also a good painter that added to her liking for Art. The Oberois were close friends with the I. K. Gujral family and her mother often praised the famous Gujral brother Mr. Satish Gujral who was a well-known artist of his times.
