George Pringle

George Pringle

George Pringle (full name: Georgina Richards-Pringle) is an artist, performer and writer from London, U.K. She is known for her stream-of-consciousness style poetry and prose delivered over backing tracks which she creates on Garageband music software. To date, she has self-released one EP, "Poor EP, poor EP without a name".

Biography

Pringle was born in Westminster Hospital in London in December 1984 to architect parents. She grew up in World's End, Chelsea (listen to S.W.10). Pringle drew constantly from a young age and at the age of 11 she went to board at Malvern Girls' College in Worcestershire after winning the Art Scholarship (the school has now merged with a neighbouring public school and is called Malvern St.James). Pringle studied piano between the ages of seven and fourteen and was a member of the choir. She first started experimenting with home recording at the age of 16 when she pinched her older brother's guitar and started making demos on a shoddy two deck Karaoke machine at home during the holidays. She then started recording tracks on a French Oral examination tape recorder in the school hall at night using the asembaly microphone. She formed a punk band named Scrappy whilst at Malvern with two local boys: Tom Fulcher and Brinn Jardine. in the band, she wrote songs, sang and played guitar. Scrappy split up and she then embarked on a solo career, writing acoustic music and playing open mic nights in Worcester.

Despite her scholarship, Pringle was advised against taking art at university by her teachers but with an increased interest in photography, graphics and video, Pringle shambolically applied to Oxford Brookes University and gained a place on an A level portfolio comprised of life drawing and comic sketches alone. It was at university that she tired of guitars and acquiring Garageband music software which came on her iBook, she started composing electronic music to accompany the poetry and prose that she writes. Pringle has graduated and continues to record and perform, having recorded BBC Radio 1 sessions and featured on The Verb, a poetry programme run by BBC3. She has played Music and Literary Festivals and continues to tour and record.

Pringle has now returned to London where she currently resides.
