Shichinohe Station

Shichinohe Station

was a railway station of Nanbu Jūkan Railway in Shichinohe, Aomori, Japan. It is also the temporary name of a railway station under construction near the former station. The new station will be on the Tohoku Shinkansen of JR East. It is scheduled to open in or before March 2011.

For the new station, some other names including Mutsu and Towada have been proposed.

Nanbu Jūkan Railway

Before 2002 there was Shichinohe Station of Nanbu Jūkan Railway. There was once a plan to use the Nanbu Jūkan to connect Tohoku Shinkansen with Noheji or Mutsu, but the railway was closed before the construction of Tohoku Shinkansen started.

History

* 20 October 1962: Station opens.
* 6 May 1997: Operation stopped.
* 1 August 2002: Station formally closed.

This station is maintained by the railway lovers.
