Kip (artistic gymnastics)

In artistic gymnastics, a Kip is a basic skill on the uneven bars.

The kip is used at a way of getting on the bar in a front support position or a handstand from a hanging or standing position.

Almost every uneven bar routine uses the kip. It is introduced in USAG Level 5.

Variations

Variations of the kip include the long hand kip, glide kip, straddle kip, and piked kip.

*The long hand kip begins from a hanging position on the high bar, usually after mounting or jumping from the low bar.

*The glide kip begins from standing in front of the low bar before a routine and piking the hips before pulling the feet to the bar.

*A straddle kip is usually a glide kip however the legs come apart on the glide and are straddled before being pulled to the bar.
