- Karlsplatz
Karlsplatz ("Charles' Square") is a
town square on the border of the first and fourth districts ofVienna . It is one of the most frequented and best connected transportation hubs in Vienna. TheKarlskirche is located here.Resselpark, adorned with numerous monuments, takes up the most area in the plaza and is on the south side. The "Evangelische Schule" (Evangelical School) and the
Technische Universität Wien (Vienna Technical University) are located here. The plaza is closed in by Karlskirche (which has a water tank and aHenry Moore sculpture in front of it), the building of the Wien Museum (Vienna Museum), and the Winterthur Insurance building. Separated from the plaza to the north are the buildings of theWiener Musikverein (Vienna Music Society), the Künstlerhaus (art house), and the Handelsakademie (business school).The first district can be reached either by subway or via Operngasse (a street). The pavilions of the former
Karlsplatz Stadtbahn Station remain despite the construction of the U-Bahn system.
