They finished seventh in the league, as the the American Association was not divided into divisions that year, which kept them out of the post-season.
Regular season
Spending the beginning of the 1987 season around the top of the standings, the team hit a slump after losing a few key players mid-season. The result was a 64–76 record and a last place finish. One player lost due to injuries was third baseman Chris Sabo. The following season, Sabo was promoted to Cincinnati and was also named the by|1988 National League Rookie of the Year, a first for any former Sounds player. ["1987 Sounds Review."
