Belilena [ [http://www.srilankanexpeditions.com/location.php?city=Belilena+Caves#imgs Belilena Caves-Sri Lanka-Caving in Sri Lanka-Locations in Sri Lanka] ] is the famous largest
cave inSri Lanka . It is located eight km from the city ofKitulgala . It holds evidence of a lost generation of Sri Lanka 12,000 years old; then this cave belonged to theBalangoda People , described as "Homo sapiens balangodensis" byPaul E. P. Deraniyagala who found here ten skeletons of these people, who lived 2000 feet above the sea level. The fossils are believed to be more than 32,000 years old.A visit requires a rope or rope ladder for entry. The part of the cave beyond the lake that fills it a short way from its mouth still remains unexplored.
