caption2=The Philippine Presidential Unit Citation is a decoration of theRepublic of the Philippines which has been awarded to certain units of theUnited States military for actions both during and subsequent to theSecond World War .The decoration was first created in 1946 and retroactively awarded to any unit of the U.S. and Philippine military which had served in the defense or liberation of the
Philippine Islands . The decoration was again bestowed to U.S. and Philippine military units for relief efforts during several natural disasters which occurred in the Philippines between 1970 and 1972.In February 2005, President
Gloria Arroyo bestowed the decoration to those members of Joint Task Force 510 & Joint Special Operations Task Force-Philippines, serving between 31 January 2002 and 31 July 2002 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Philippines (formerly known as Operation Freedom Eagle)and RP-US Exercise Balikatan 02-1 in SouthernMindanao . JTF-510/JSOTF-Philippines aimed at reducing the threats of terrorism and provided assistance with training, socio-economic activities and civil engineering projects, particularly inBasilan andZamboanga City (Ref: RP General Order No. 146, dated 2 Feb 05, Subj: Award of the Philippine Republic Presidential Unit Citation Badge).**FOR US MILITARY PERSONNEL**1. ON 12 DECEMBER 2007, THE UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE OF THE ARMY APPROVED THE ACCEPTANCE AND WEAR OF THE PHILIPPINE REPUBLIC PRESIDENTAL UNIT CITATION (PRPUC) FOR UNITS SUPPORTING EXERCISE BALIKATAN 02-1.
2. ACCEPTANCE AND WEAR OF THE PRPUC IS APPROVED FOR UNITED STATES PACFIC COMMAND (USPACOM) AND SUBORDINATE UNITS IDENTIFIED IN THE GENERAL HEADQUARTERS, ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES, GENERAL ORDERS NUMBER 146, DATED 2 FEBRUARY 2005, ALSO LISTED IN PARAGRAPH 4, BELOW.
3. THE PRPUC WAS APPROVED TO RECOGNIZE UNITS FOR THEIR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION AND EXTRAORDINARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS DURING THE CONDUCT OF THE RP-US EXERCISE BALIKANTAN 02-1 IN SOUTHERN MINDANAO FROM 31 JANUARY 2002 TO 31 JULY 2002. ONLY SOLDIERS ASSIGNED OR ATTACHED TO A PARTICIPATING UNIT AND WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE ACTION CITED ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS AWARD.
