The lyrics describe or evoke personal experience of
panic , and end in repeated calls of "hang the blessed DJ / because the music that they constantly play / it says nothing to me about my life". These refer to the fact that after the report of theChernobyl disaster, a popular radiodisc jockey , Steve Wright, played a song byWham! , something which Morrissey saw as highly inappropriate, hence writing the lyrics.Cover versions
