Exhibits, artifacts and the collection
The museum displays a wide range of local
artifact s from bothprehistory covering theStone Age , theBronze Age , theIron Age and the period ofRoman Britain ,Roman Wales and theDark Ages and the emergence ofBrycheiniog , plus exhibits from the historical period coveringmedieval and later history.The
rural life andagricultural andfarming life of the county is also reflected through both artifacts and art work such as paintings by local and national artists on display.Rare exhibits include a
Dugout (boat) or primitivecanoe fromLlangorse Lake and a tombstone of a cavalryman fromY Gaer, Brecon Roman fort .The museum also has an
art gallery . It is sited within the shire hall, where in previous yearsAssize court cases, including murder trials, were held [http://www.gtj.org.uk/en/item1/4173] .Opening times
The Brecknock Museum is open from 10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10-5pm on Saturdays plus 12.00 midday to 5 pm on Sundays (see website for details).
Admission is free for local residents - small fee for tourists.
