Peter Bussian

Peter Bussian (born 1962 in Jamestown, Colorado) is an American photographer and filmmaker who is known mainly for his images of refugees and other international development issues [ [http://www.abc.net.au/sundaynights/stories/s1237887.htm Postcard from Sudan] ] . He has photographed war, famine and natural disasters in some twenty countries for organizations such as the United Nations and its various agencies, INGOs, USAID, DFID and Ausaid as well as for magazines, newspapers, books and television programs, including The New York Times, Paris-Match and The Oprah Winfrey Show. Bussian is also known for his portrait and event photographs and has photographed a number of well-known personalities and musicians, including Reynold Levy, Hamid Karzai, Anne Akiko Meyers, Angela Maria Blasi and Arianna Zukerman.

He also played one of the lead roles in "Opium War" (Cineclick Asia, 2008) [ [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0497951/ IMDB Opium War page] ] , the second feature film of Golden Globe winning Afghan director Siddiq Barmak.

Bussian received a BA from the dn|University of Colorado in history and philosophy before going on to study film briefly at Columbia University. He then moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he studied at the Anthropology Film Center and photographed for magazines such as El Palacio Magazine (Museum of New Mexico) and New Mexico Magazine. He has lived in New York City since 1993 but has spent years working abroad, including more than three years in Afghanistan since 2001.
