Trevor Carolan (born
1951 ) is a Canadian writer and politician.Born in
Yorkshire , Carolan's family emigrated in l957 and he grew up inVancouver ,British Columbia . He has traveled extensively in Asia and Europe, and has lived and worked in California, Alberta, and Britain. Widely published as journalist, translator, poet and anthologist specializing in East-West arts and letters, his publications have been translated into five languages and include the acclaimed anthology "The Colors of Heaven: Short Stories From the Pacific Rim"; co-translation of the modern Taoist classics "The Book of the Heart" and "The Supreme Way"; "Giving Up Poetry", a memoir of his friendship with the American poetAllen Ginsberg ; and the award-winning "Return To Stillness: Twenty Years With A Tai Chi Master". He has worked as media advocate on behalf of international human rights, famine relief, refugees, Canadian Aboriginal land claims, and Pacific Coast logging and watershed issues. He holds a Ph.D. inInternational Relations fromBond University in Australia, and for more than thirty years has studied Buddhism, the martial arts, and Chinese medicine. He teaches English and Pacific Rim Studies in Vancouver, and writes and reviews regularly for "Choice", "The Bloomsbury Review ", "Manoa (journal) ", [http://www.kyotojournal.org/ "Kyoto Journal"] and "Shambhala Sun ".
