album by the British bandWhitesnake , released in 1979.Cover art
"Lovehunter"'s cover art featuring a naked white female straddling a large snake was created by famed fantasy artist
Chris Achilleos . Reportedly the controversial cover proved troublesome for Achilleos who subsequently refused to do album covers for many years. [ [http://www.melodicrock.com/interviews/garyhughes-oafk.html MelodicRock.com Interviews: Gary Hughes - Once And Future King ] ] Achilleos' original "Lovehunter" artwork was stolen in the 1980s and has yet to be recovered. [ [http://www.chrisachilleos.co.uk/main/piracy/index.html Chris Achilleos - Piracy ] ]A similar idea had been used three years earlier for the cover of
Jon Lord 's Sarabande album, released in 1976. The cover shows the drawing of anourobouros (snake biting its own tail), on which three naked women ride. The woman at 120º (clockwise) from the top stands in a position evocative of the woman on the "Lovehunter" cover. The originalJon Lord sleeve was designed by Kosh, and the illustration on it, made by Mike Bryan. Lord was inWhitesnake at the time of "Lovehunter".The "sexist" album cover for the faux album "
Smell the Glove ", referred to in the movie "This Is Spinal Tap ", is based on this concept. The album cover was said to depict a woman on a leash being forced to smell a glove.Long Way From Home, the leading track on the album, was the band's first single. However the single flopped due to poor promotionFact|date=May 2008.
