Yeoor is a location in
Thane district inMaharashtra ,India that lies in theSanjay Gandhi National Park . It is known for its panthers and wildlife. Yeoor village has a few hundred inhabitants. Surrounding the villages are bungalows owned by the wealthy, mostly belonging to ministers. AnIndian Air Force station is also located in the area. Access to the area is tightly controlled by the Forest Department, and no vehicles are permitted to enter after 20:00 hours.----
General Description
Yeoor Hills (or also known as "Mama Bhanja Hills") is a hill station of Thanaites. This naturally beautiful and pollution free area attracts lot of people. It is an unspoiled and pollution free area, carpeted by natural foliage and fauna.
Yeoor Hills is home to about 78 known species of birds and about 12 different species of animals. Besides, it has the highest density of leopards in India. A
trek through Yeoor Hills at the Thane end ofSanjay Gandhi National Park will be an enchanting experience. The prime attraction here is the 150-year-old holy shrine of Mama Bhanja.
Tikuji-Ni-Wadi, a complete family theme park, is nearby.People
The area has many villages (6 to be precise). The population is around 3000 (an approximate figure). The tribe is popularly known as "Varli". The population literacy is low, but improving with time. The people living and working in these villages, surprisingly come from many different linguistic groups of India.
Occupation
Since majority of the village population comprises of adivasis, cutting wood and selling regional fruits is the main source of income. The lowest possible income in one of these villages could be in the range of Rs. 4000 to Rs. 6000 "per annum". Also growing
rice and fishing (in the small dam nearby) are the other occupations of the villagers.Infrastructure
The area also has road access with the general transportation being bus, auto rickshaws and private vehicles. The Golden Swan Country Club and Exotica are the attraction for many people.
As regards the local village, the area is quite under-developed with no electricity in the last 2 villages. Also the area has a single Municipal School with classes upto 7th grade. There are no proper sanitation facilities in the village. There are no hospitals in the entire village area. For treatment, the people have to come down to the Vartak-Nagar area (downhill) which is a proper town and a host to many reputed residential complexes.

All in all, the clean atmosphere and the famous Country Club are the main attractions of these hills, and have converted it into a perfect tourist spot for the Thanaites.
