Although this song was not as successful as the previous single, "Polyamorous", "Skin" still managed to chart on both "Billboard's" Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks and Hot Modern Rock Tracks, peaking at #24 and #37, respectively.

Benjamin Burnley, the band's lead singer, has stated that he dislikes this song. This is because the band had planned to release "Medicate" as a single, but Hollywood Records insisted on releasing "Skin" first.
