R. G. Battu (1927 July 4 - 1994) was the Principal of the
Government Pharmacy college, Bangalore since 1966 until he retired from there. The Government Pharmacy college was the first of its kind in Bangalore city under the able guidance of Principal Dr. Battu. Ram Battu was the author of many research papers in Pharmacognosy chemistry. Battu was a Ph.D from University of Rhode Island, US.Early life
Dr. Ramachandra Gangadhar Battu was born in Gokarna,
Uttar Kannada region,India , to aHavyaka Brahmin family. After completing B.Sc., in chemistry from Karnataka college,Dharwar he spent another 3 years to earn his B.Sc.,(Tech.) from theMumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology .Career
In 1965, Battu received his Ph.D in Pharmacognosy from the [http://www.uri.edu/pharmacy/departments/bps/ University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island, USA] . In 1966, he joined the Government college of Pharmacy, Bangalore as the principal of the institute until he retired from there. Battu was an able teacher and an administrator and under his guidance the school had its greatest development in the field during the time India was an underdeveloped country.
