Tenerife is a whitesaltire (orSt Andrew's Cross ) over a blue field. The arms of the cross are approximately one fifth the width of the flag and the field isnavy blue ("azul marino").The flag was first adopted as a maritime registry flag of the maritime province of the
Canary Islands . It was initially adopted in1845 by Royal Order and was adopted as the flag ofTenerife by an Order issued on9 May 1989 , with the order appearing in the [http://www.gobcan.es/boc/1989/070/007.html Boletín Oficial de Canarias] on22 May 1989 .The flag is identical to the
