Biology in science fiction

Biology in science fiction

Biology, as seen in science fiction works, usually describes a world populated with creatures with different metabolisms and can often derogate a number of biological laws present in normal life as seen on planet Earth.

This can involve the possession of extraordinary faculties (super-powers) like, for instance, shapeshifting, "normally" present in a creature or due to some kind of transformation, or the use of biological techniques, although present nowadays, described in a future world with augmented reach.

Alien life

This kind of life can be presented with a very anthropomorphic point of view, with creatures resembling man, or not.

Mutation

Mutation is a theme in science fiction. It often implies a radical appearance change without carcinogenesis, and often with the use of a mutagenic element (rays, chemical, ...)

Hybridization

Hybridization is a classic theme in science fiction. It usually happens without any existence of a species barrier, and can occur between humans, or Earth creatures, and extra-terrestrials. This latter event stipulates then the existence of the DNA structure throughout the whole of the universe.

Creatures fusion

Fusion of different creature occur in science fiction, by mean of counter-nature surgery or by accident, like in teleportation processes.

Cloning

Cloning, especially man cloning, is often depicted in science fiction work, occurring in large tank-like incubators filled with liquid.
