Dr. Frederick S. Humphries (born December 26, 1935 in Appalachicola, Florida) is an American academic administrator and chemistry professor. He has been Regent Professor,
Florida A&M University since 2003, and has served President and CEO,National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (2001 – 2003), President,Florida A&M University (1985 – 2001) and President,Tennessee State University (1974 – 1985).He has bachelors degree in physical chemistry from
Florida A&M University where he graduated Magana Cum Laude in 1957. He received a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from theUniversity of Pittsburgh in 1964 where he was the first African American to receive a Ph.D in this discipline from the University.
