- Being Bobby Brown
"Being Bobby Brown" was a reality series that depicted the life of R&B singer
Bobby Brown and his mega-star ex wifeWhitney Houston , and their family. The series debuted on the Bravo channel onJune 30 ,2005 , and became very highly rated, and restored a degree of celebrity to Bobby Brown. The network initially refused to air the program with Brown as the sole star and only greenlighted it when Houston agreed to be included in the regular cast. Houston herself was visibly displeased when she left the premiere ofBeing Bobby Brown , possibly due to the editing she received coupled with the amount of air time dedicated to her over her husband.Ratings were so high, undoubtedly due to the presence of Houston, that she received nearly as much screen time as the show's title character. The program showcased the lives of the couple, including their shopping at the famed
Harrod's ofLondon (where they met with ownerMohamed Al-Fayed ), vacationing in theBahamas , and hunting. Houston popularized the phrase "Hell to the no" on the show and was nominated for aVH-1 "Big In '05 Award" for "Quote of the Year". This phrase also appeared on T-shirts.The Soup also featured Houston loudly shouting "Kiss my ass!" as a running gag, naming it its "Clip of the Year"."Being Bobby Brown" aired on Thursday evenings.
*Bobby Brown stated, during an interview on
106 & Park , that "Being Bobby Brown" will be returning with new episodes in the near future. A second season of the show was taped in 2006 but was never picked up by Bravo or any other network. Speculation is that this is because the couple were having marital problems, and Houston refused to appear in the show.A DVD release was also stated for release in early
2008 but did not see the light due to Houston refusing to sign the release form [ [http://www.kbsradio.ca/news/music/87/699243 music news | KBS Radio ] ] .References
