The administrators, faculty and staff of DCHS seek to educate the complete student. Classroom activities are designed so that students focus on upgrading their oral, written, listening, and speaking skills. DCHS offers college preparatory as well as technology prep diploma tracks. Dougherty High was founded in 1963, is the second younger high school ahead of Westover High. Dougherty Comprehensive High School has about 1,034 students. The school's ethnic race percentage is 96% African-American, 3% Caucasian, and 1% other. DCHS is a
Title I school , nearly about 66% economically disadvantaged students.As of 2008, Dougherty will be labeled as a Charter Secondary School starting for the2008-2009 school year.The school colors are maroon and white. The school's mascot is

*FCCLA To promote growth and leadership development through family and consumer sciences education. Focusing on the multiple roles of family member, wage earner, and community leader. The members develop skills for life. The motto is, "Toward New Horizons". Kathy Bundy serves primary advisor.

*FCA. The Fellowship for Christian Athletes provides Christian fellowship opportunities. FCA members meet on Tuesday mornings for prayer and devotionals. The organization included meets periodically at the flag pole for prayer.
*Drama Club DCHS Drama club is one of the most popular organizations in Dougherty High School.
*Alpha Mentee Dougherty High School Alpha Mentee Organization has been existence at Dougherty High since 2000. The organization is designed to build character education, to familiarize high school students with basic life skills, such as developing self-discipline, having high self-esteem, and promoting positive values. The DCHS Alpha Mentee program also allows members to be involved in number service projects for the Albany community such as local nursing home visits and seasonal food drives every year in November and December. DCHS Alpha Mentee take part of 1 or 2 college visitations per year to serve student members that chooses to continue their education at a four insitution or serve in a respectable military service. FBLA Dougherty High's FBLA is under Georgia FBLA. Georgia FBLA is a nonprofit student organization committed to preparing today's students for success in business leadership. With over more than 75 members, DCHS FBLA is the premiere organization for student leaders. The DCHS FBLA mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs. The mission of FBLA official motto: Service, Education, and Progress.At the end of 2007-2008 school year, Dougherty Comprehensive High School reach its potential accomplishment by being ranked in the top ten (#10) for most active members in the state of Georgia for the first time in school history.DCHS FBLA primary advisor is Dorothy Lewis.
* Trojan City Bank Trojan City Bank is a financially in school bank service that serves students monetary finances. The Trojan City Bank opened on November 5, 2003. In prior to work for the TCB, students are required to go through training of financial operations before serving financial actions toward the customers whom are students of DCHS.

Beta Club Dougherty Comprehensive High School Chorale
Dougherty High School is respectfully known for its school chorale. With over 35 members, DCHS chorale has won numerous awards and achievements locally and nationwide and received praise and acknowledgment from the local and nationwide media in the local Albany community. As of 2008, The chorale was directed from former director Mark Butler (1994-2006) and recently Elvin Mallory (2006-2008).
