Real Salt Lake named Host

Major League Soccer announced on July 9, 2008 that Rio Tinto Stadium, the League's newest soccer-specific venue, will host the 2009 MLS All-Star Game in the summer of 2009. MLS President Mark Abbott joined Real Salt Lake Owner David W. Checketts, Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., and Sandy Mayor Tom Dolan at a press conference at the new Stadium to officially announce the event. This will be the first MLS All-Star Game to be held in Utah.

*The 2009 MLS All-Star Game is the first to be played in the state of Utah.
*For the second consecutive time Pepsi is the official sponsor of the All-Star Game.
*This will be the sixth time that the league’s best players face international competition in the MLS All-Star Game.
