He competed at the1896 Summer Olympics inAthens .Tapavicza won abronze medal in the singles tennis tournament. In the first round, he defeatedD. Frangopoulos ofGreece . The second round gave him a bye.Dionysios Kasdaglis ofEgypt beat Tapavicza in the semifinal, and with no playoff for third place he shared bronze medal honors with the GreekKonstantinos Paspatis .Слика:Matica.jpgTapavicza did not compete in the doubles tournament.He finished last of the six competitors in the two-handed weightlifting event, now known as the
clean and jerk . The weight Tapavicza lifted is unknown, but was less than 90.0 kilograms.In the wrestling competition, Tapavicza was defeated in the first round by
Stephanos Christopoulos . The two were nearly evenly matched, but Tapavicza tired first and conceded.He participated for Hungary, but was more apparently a Serbian national in 1896, who was studying in
Budapest . The first official participation of Serbia was in 1912, this would make Tapavicza to the first (unofficial) competitor from Serbia.
