. It was founded in 1907 and was at that time on the outskirts of the city. It was extensively renovated in the 1990s but the original facade was maintained. It is the academic school for lower east end Toronto. The school has a very high population of Asians, being it that 71% is from several Asian countries, such as; China, Japan, Korea, etc. It is usually viewed as a non-violent school with the least amount of incidents in the TDSB.The practicing principals for 2008/2009 year are:Ms. Greely being the vice-principal of the school.Mr. Nigro being the principal of the school.

On May 17, 2006 the first annual "United Games" were hosted at Riverdale. This was a day-long event also including students from Eastern Commerce Secondary School, Monarch Park Collegiate and Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute.
