Sir Kenneth Gordon Oxford CBE, QPM (

Kenneth Oxford was born in
Camberwell ,London and educated at theCaldecott School ,Lambeth . He joined theRoyal Air Force in 1942 and served withBomber Command in south eastAsia until 1947.Police career
Oxford joined the
Metropolitan Police after leaving the RAF and within six months was promoted to detective with the CID. In 1963 he took part as a junior officer, in the Profumo investigation, arrestingChristine Keeler on suspicion ofperjury andconspiracy to pervert the course of justice. Oxford was also the arresting officer who detainedJames Hanratty in 1962.In 1969 Oxford joined
Northumbria Police as assistant chief constable. He was appointed deputy chief constable of Merseyside Police in 1974, and became chief constable in 1976. Oxford was knighted in 1988, and retired from the force the following year.References
